Volume Sequence & Bar Ratio - Orderflow Triggers Study for Sierra Chart
π What It Does
This advanced Sierra Chart study visualizes where and how volume shifts occur inside each candle, highlighting patterns that often precede intraday reversals, continuation setups, or failed breakouts.
It automatically identifies:
- Sequence patterns showing volume stacking or fading participation
- Bid/Ask ratio extremes showing rejection or defense behavior
- Delta expansions confirming directional intent through delta volatility
All signals are computed on closed bars only β ensuring accuracy and no repainting.
βοΈ Core Components
1οΈβ£ Volume Sequence (VOL SEQ)
Detects consecutive price levels with directional volume buildup β showing how participants engage inside the bar, not just at its close.
- Long Trigger: Bullish bar + bearish delta + ascending buy volume
- Short Trigger: Bearish bar + bullish delta + ascending sell volume
Optionally, a βFinished Business/Auctionβ condition can be applied.
2οΈβ£ Bar Ratio (BR)
Analyzes the bid/ask volume ratio within each bar to quantify rejection or defense behavior.
-
Neutral Zone (Default: 0.71 β 29.0)
Normal trading flow β buyers and sellers participating evenly. -
Ratio Above 29.0 β Price Rejection
- Below an up bar β lower prices rejected (bullish signal).
- Above a down bar β higher prices rejected (bearish signal).
-
Ratio Below 0.71 β Price Defense
- Below an up bar β buyers defending that level.
- Above a down bar β sellers defending that level.
This context isolates when one side actively defends or rejects price, allowing more precise interpretation of order flow strength.
3οΈβ£ Delta Bollinger OF Logic (L1 / L2 / S1 / S2)
Combines price structure, delta volatility, and finished business to identify high-probability triggers.
- L1 / L2: Delta closes above upper band β aggressive buy imbalance
- S1 / S2: Delta closes below lower band β aggressive sell imbalance
β‘ Combined Trigger Logic
All three components β Volume Sequence, Bar Ratio, and Delta Bollinger β work together with price action context to ensure that signals only appear when multiple layers of orderflow alignment are confirmed.

β οΈ Important Note
This is not a trading system and should not be used as a standalone entry signal.
Each trigger represents an order flow event, not a guaranteed trade outcome.
Use in conjunction with your existing methodology and risk management framework.
When applied at the right zones, these triggers provide clarity and precision; outside of context, they may produce noise.
